Duncan Studio - 325 South Ave.
Duncan Studio

The building was built in 1881 by J. T. Atzer and Thomas Sampey for their business, the Queen City Meat Market. The upper floor was occupied by the George Fluth Tobacco Company, manufacturers of smoking and chewing tobacco. Thirty thousand cigars were made each day with specialty ones named "Four Ace" and "Golden Crown." Duncan Photography Studio relocated here in 1959 when the building and the business were purchased by Frank Horn.

The two story brick structure has a simple patterned and banded brick entablature beneath the parapet. There are four round arched window openings with two over two light window sash on the upper story. The first story has been altered but a small portion of press metal facade survives below the second story window level.

Approved: 9/2/86
