Open Air Art

If you haven't driven around downtown Springfield recently you are missing some outstanding open air art. The displays, done by students and other artists, not only capture the spirit and history of the community but also brighten the appearance of a continuously growing part of town.

The murals are sponsored by the Springfield Program for Public Art and funded by various civic organizations.

We've previewed two of those projects for you.

Jefferon Ave. Mural
This work of art is on the east wall of a building that was adjacent to the old Colonial Hotel at Jefferson Ave. and St. Louis St. It is entitled "Friday Morning at 10 a.m.". Get a closer look here.
Market Ave. mural
Entitled "Tributaries", this mural is located on the east side of a building on Market Ave. just north of College St. The main artist for the project was David Lowenstein. He was assisted by students from Bailey Alternative High School. Take a closer look here.
