If there
were really such a thing as a time machine which could take us back in time
to visit with any historical figure of our choosing, my choice would be to
spend some time with William Frederick Cody--"Buffalo Bill".
There are several reasons for this. One is that I think he was a unique personality
and an often controversial one whose strength could be used today. Secondly,
and just as important, is that there is Cody blood in my veins. My mother
was a Cody and the family was strong in north central Ohio where we lived.
First my uncle and then my cousin were presidents of the International Cody
Family Association. This group celebrates the fact that they are part of the
line that started with Phillip Cody in Europe in the 17th Century.
I'd been aware of my "Cody connection" since a young man but it was only recently
that my interest was kindled in finding out more about my famous relative
.
I'm not sure what kindled the new interest in Buffalo Bill. I think it was
because, from all the pieces of information mulling around inside my brain,
I came to realize just how unique he was. As I look at my renewed interest
today, I think it is also because, as I approach my later years, I would like
to be just a little bit more like the brave and adventurous Buffalo Bill.
To find
out more about William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody I took to the Internet, the
great repository of information all over the world. The links I found there
give a interesting and pretty comprehensive picture of this great man. I hope
you'll take a look.
I'm Richard
Grosenbaugh of Springfield, Missouri.
